For Gil, the uninspired screenwriter at the center of this award-winning film, aimless urban wandering becomes a source of creativity. While on a trip to Paris, Gil begins taking midnight walks through the city and finds himself transported to the 1920s, into a social circle that includes Dalí, Eliot, Matisse, Picasso, and Gertrude and Leo Stein. Martha Lucy introduces the film, discussing Albert Barnes’s friendship with the historical figures depicted.
