The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet makes music without boundaries. For more than thirty years the Grammy-winning ensemble’s four virtuosos, each possessing musical strengths in particular genres, have enlivened concert stages with multicultural programs ranging from Bach to bluegrass. The Penn State program highlights the quartet’s signature mix of classical favorites and far-ranging explorations. Experience classical works by Luigi Boccherini, Manuel de Falla, and Claude Debussy; jazz tunes by Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and John Coltrane; and Spanish Renaissance music from the time of Miguel de Cervantes. “The world’s hottest classical ensemble or its tightest pop band? However it helps you to think about the LAGQ,” writes a Los Angeles Times critic, “keep the emphasis on superlatives for its unrivaled joy, technical élan, and questing spirits.”
