Watch history come alive in Lehigh Valley Heritage Day July 9, 2023 in Easton, Pennsylvania, is a free, full-day family festival that features local history and heritage, reenactments, activities for kids and musical performances. History of Eastons Heritage Day Heritage Day celebrates Eastons historic significance in the founding of the United States. At noon on July 8, 1776, Easton was one of three places where the Declaration of Independence had its first public reading. It was read on the steps of the old courthouse in Eastons historic Centre Square by the Chair of the Committee of Safety, Robert Levers. A reenactment of that event, and a festival organized around it, first occurred during the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976. From that year on, Heritage Day has been celebrated as Eastons own Independence Day celebration. How to Experience the Day Stroll the streets with colonial reenactors, visit the Civil War encampment, watch historic pageants and peruse the wares of period crafters. View the citys historic architecture, tour centuries-old churches, and experience Northampton Countys rich heritage at the Sigal Museum. Enjoy live music all day and into the evening along with food from local restaurants and vendors across Lehigh Valley.
